making pillowcase dresses
This week I am learning to assemble the pillowcases into dresses for my entire project. With the help from NHS, I was able to collect a reasonable amount of donated pillowcases. During this process it is all starting to feel so rewarding. It's fun to be apart of something that is more than just a donation. This process is helping provide clothes that are not easily accessible to. I think along the way I have become a different person. I'm making this post more about how I am evolving into a totally different person rather than how far along in the project I actually am. I am actually almost done with the entire thing, so with the left over time I am just going to focus on making more dresses that can be donated to LDFA.

What even is a sewing machine
Over the years I have watched my grandma multiple times sew things using a machine, but I never really had any interest in learning how to do it. She's like a wizard on that machine, so I decided to ask her to help me. Well, it was more like I just watched her do it because she is equally bad at explaining as I am listening. It's going to take a couple times before I can figure it out. Figure out first how to use the machine and second how to sew in a straight line. Give me a few more days and I'll have it down to a science.
Meeting Conne Kovach
Last Tuesday, I arranged for a speaker to come and talk to our NHS here at the school and talk about how important donations are to this charity. I've known this woman for years so it was really nice to see her. During this meeting I attended and set up, she talked about the drive that motivated her to get out there and help others and in that moment I had never related to anyone as much. We had all the same reasons for wanting to make a difference and it was a breath of fresh air, a reminder that I can do what I set my mind to. Now that I have people lined up to actually donate pillowcases that I can then turn into dresses, makes this experience all the more real. Next Step, learning to use a sewing machine.

Everything is starting to come together
As I approach week 3 of my LDFA project, I have realized the importance of others. Without others things are nearly impossible to do yourself. The ire day I was talking to my grandma about how I still needed to actually learn how to use a sewing machine. She offered so quickly how to teach me. It's the little things like this that makes me realize that although this is my dream to help, there are others that only want to see me succeed. I was able to acquire some awesome people that are going to help me leave this high school on a good note. I want to make a difference and there are so many people that are willing to help me make that happen. I haven't quite started my presentation but I know everything I want to say. It's just finding the right words to really express how much this means to me. Stay tuned:)
